UK ESC 2009 - Jade - Its my time (Final)

Born and brought up in Plaistow, East London to a Jamaican mother and British/ Sicilian father, Jade's upbringing has been, unusual, to say the least. Her dad Trevor, 46, is blind and her mum Carol, 48, is partially blind and deaf. Being a carer to her parents and two younger siblings has given Jade a pragmatic outlook on life. 'My mum has to go into hospital for two weeks every month for a course of drips and steroids - when that happens, I have to look after everyone because my dad can only do so much. 'I have a teenage brother who is only interested in his Xbox, and my sister is often out with boyfriends, so it is left to me to cope. I'm not complaining - I'm the eldest, so it's my role, and I am happy to do as much as I can for everyone.'
Since a three year-old singing in her grandma's garden, she's set her sights on making music, and pursued her dreams relentlessly. A year later, she was attending her first dance school and before long taking acting and singing lessons, entering talent competitions and singing along to Mariah Carey's Hero at the top of her voice.
With both parents unable to work and existing on disability benefits, money was far from flowing in the Ewen household. Approached by the renowned Sylvia Young theatre school, but unable to pay the astronomical fees, Jade set her mind to winning one of the precious few scholarships on offer. She was successful, and as a teenage attendee of the school Jade appeared on The Bill, Casualty and Mr Harvey Lights A Candle, before cutting her vocal skills performing onstage as the female lead 'Nala' in The Lion King at the age of 12.
"If I hadn't gone to stage school, I would have stayed at my ordinary school, and I was always in trouble. I would have been heading for delinquency. Growing up was quite difficult. I didn't get to have things like parties, or the best Christmas presents, but I didn't miss all that because I never had them in the first place. My parent's disabilities have given me a lot of drive, because my mum always said she didn't want to see us struggling like her,” says Jade. “Since I was young, I knew what I wanted to do, and their support and advice has given me the ambition to go out and get what I want".
After leaving school, Jade set out with steely determination to get signed. Jade says: 'Even when I was very young, people used to say "What do you want to do?" and I'd say: "I want to be a singer." They'd say: "No, what's your serious job going to be?" And I'd say: "What do you mean? I am going to be a superstar."
Then followed a short stint in 2005 in Sony BMG with girl band Trinity Stone, one of the other members of the group was Mica Paris's niece Cherry - who is still one of Jade's best friends. Third member of the band was Irish Azi Jegbefume, participant of Irish national Eurovision preselection 2003. Band, formed by Grammy winning producer Brian Rowling, has released several singles, including a co-production with American pop singer Ne-Yo "Real Love". The Group was dropped by Sony BMG in 2007 without releasing their debut album. Jade grabbed her dad, his guide dog and her demo, and the three travelled New York where she impressed renowned music producer Kwame (Christina Aguilera, Pussycat Dolls, Usher, Will Smith). Similarly to her musical idols, Aretha Franklin only being one of them, the songs were recorded live with a full band; they're truly a breath of fresh air in this age of digital mimicry.“I think the energy is really there,” she was explaining of the nine tracks so far mixed and mastered. “I'm young, I don't want to sound depressing and boring. But I think some of the second half of the album will look at my relationship with my family. I want to allow this record to be intimate and personal at times.”
It looked as if the stardom she has longed for since she was a toddler was within her grasp - but she was dropped, yet again. 'I had to start from scratch, which was hard enough,' she says. 'But when I was dropped for the second time, it was horrible because I became the singer nobody wanted. 'I was at my lowest then, but I decided to carry on as best I could. Even so, nothing seemed to be happening. I really wanted to sing, but I didn't know how to go about it.
'When the chance came up to compete in Your Country Needs You! I knew that nobody took Eurovision seriously and it got a lot of ridicule. But I thought if Andrew Lloyd Webber is prepared to take a chance and put his name to it, then why shouldn't I?'
Now, Jade is working with showbusiness manager Jonathan Shalit, who numbers Myleene Klass among his clients. He says: 'I think the outcome of this show will be the emergence of Jade as a superstar.' Record company executive James Roberts, who worked with her in Trinity Stone, says: 'She's a world-class vocalist - one of those people who you know is going to make it.'

Down so long

But those days are gone now

I've got the willI've earned the right

To show you it's my time tonight

My time

It's my time

And I'll stand proud

There's nothing I'm afraid of

Show you all it's my time now

I'll break through

I've made my move

And my faith is strong now

I've got the heart

To reach the heights

To show you it's my time tonight

Lyrics:

Out of the shadows once again, my enemy

- my love

Inevitable is my destiny, don't matter how you prepare the heart

But before you left, with golden ring

Betrothed me with you and haven't saved from sorcery

And didn't let my soul be free

Mom

And you've been telling me no matter how I wish

Mom

And I didn't know at that time where is that trouble

Mom

And you've been telling me that time is like water

Mom, Mom, Mom

Love is a trouble

I will throw away my dream and will crush it on the floor

How you've broken my destiny and left on the edge With rain I will pour out girl's tears

Mom

And you've been telling me no matter how I wish

Mom

And I didn't know at that time where is that trouble

Mom

And you've been telling me that time is like water

Mom, Mom, Mom

Love is a trouble

FRANCE ESC 2009 - Patricia Kaas - S'il Fallait Le Faire (Final)

Patricia Kaas was born on December 5, 1966, in a small town called Forbach in the Lorraine region at Eastern France, just by the German border. From her childhood Patricia was surrounded by both cultures, and it?s not surprising - her father was a French man, while her mother was German. The youngest child of the family, Patricia was very shy and modest. She loved spending time in her room, listening to Claude Francois? music. Patricia loved singing since early childhood. She met her first stage at the age of 8. It was during a carnival in her hometown Forbach, she sang Claude Francois? song Sale Bonhomme and won her first award - a bag of candy. From the age of 9 until 12, Patricia together with her sister Carine participated in the parades that took place at Stiring-Wendel. At the same time she joined the band Black Flowers where she sang popular disco songs. At 13 Patricia got a contract at the German cabaret-club Rumpelkammer at Saarebruck, at the German side of the border. She sang 3 times a week, at times the performances lasted until 3-4 at night. Patricia became almost a professional singer and stayed in this cabaret for 7 years. Supported by her mother, Patricia decided to make a choice in favour of her future singer career and to drop out of school. In 1983, a man named Bernard Schwarz came into the Rumpelkammer club. This man was not a famous musical producer but an architect from Bitche (Moselle). «When I came into the club I didn?t notice her. I only heard a deep low voice. I looked around, and I was shocked to see this small fragile blonde girl.» Only a year later, in May 1984, Schwarz came back to the club with friends. The next day Schwarz called his friends in Paris and arranged a meeting with Joel Cartigny, a director at the Phonogram studio.Cartigny fought with Phonogram to make a record with Patricia, but it wasn?t easy. He was told every time that she would`t sell because at that time the french chanson wasn?t popular. Meanwhile Cartigny decided to leave Phonogram and start an independent production. And he decided he would make Patricia a star. To get to know her better he went to Forbach, met her family at their little house. He shot a video cassette of Patricia during her performance at the Rumpelkammer club. Cartigny knew a few people in show business. He demonstrated the video cassette to Gerard and Elisabeth Depardieu. When a phone rang at the Kaas? home, and Gerard Depardieu himself asked to talk to Patricia, she thought it was a joke. He and his wife were so impressed with her voice, they decided to produce her first single. Elisabeth co-wrote a song with Francois Bernheim (a songwriter who was also friends with Joel Cartigny) and Gerard produced it. The song was called Jalouse (Jealous). A promo version of the single was released in 1985 in France and Germany thanks to Gerard?s financing. Schwartz, who became Patricia?s personal producer, decides to finance another record for his protege. Again they turn to Francois Bernheim, and he turns to another fellow songwriter Didier Barbelivien. Barbelivien digs up a song, an un-exploited treasure, which he wrote back in 1977. A song called Mademoiselle chante le blues. In the beginning of 1987, Bernard Schwartz and Patricia sign a contract with the record company Polydor, and in April of that year the record Mademoiselle chante le blues is released. Suddenly it was a big hit. In 1988 Patricia moves to Paris. She returns to the studio and records her first album. The songs all written in collaboration by Didier Barbelivien and Francois Bernheim. The album Mademoiselle chante… is finally released in November 1988. In a couple of weeks it becomes gold in France, in another tree weeks - platinum. It also gets platinum in Switzerland and Belgium, and successfully sells in Spain, Germany, Austria, Canada, Japan, Holland, 3 million copies worldwide. In the spring of 1989 Patricia starts a promotion tour around Europe and USSR. On April 10, 1990, the second album is out. Scene de vie (Scene of life), under a new company, CBS (Columbia Broadcasting Systems). Bernard Schwartz leaves his position as a manager, in favor of real professional - Cyril Prieur. In December Patricia is chosen as Voice Of The Year by the audience of RTL and FR3.In January 1991 the first part of her tour ends after 8 concerts in Russia, 6 in Germany, 11 in Canada and 5 in Japan. Lyrics:

S'il fallait le faire,

J'arreterais la Terre,

J'eteindrais la lumiere

Que tu restes endormi.

S'il fallait pour te plaire

Lever des vents contraires,

Dans un desert sans vie

Je trouverais la mer...

Et s'il fallait le faire,

J'arreterais la pluie,

Elle fera demi-tour

Le reste de nos vies.

S'il fallait pour te plaire

T'ecouter chaque nuit

Quand tu parles d'amour,

J'en parlerais aussi...

Que tu regardes encore

Dans le fond de mes yeux,

Que tu y vois encore

Le plus grand des grands feux.

Et que ta main se colle

Sur ma peau, ou elle veut.

Un jour si tu t'envoles

Je suivrais, si je peux...

Et s'il fallait le faire,

Je repousserais l'hiver

A grands coups de printemps

Et de longs matins clairs.

S'il fallait pour te plaire

J'arreterais le temps,

Que tous tes mots d'hier

Restent a moi maintenant.

Que je regarde encore

Dans le bleu de tes yeux,

Que tes deux mains encore

Se perdent dans mes cheveux,

Je ferai tout plus grand,

Et si c'est trop ou peu,

J'aurais tort tout le temps

Si c'est ca que tu veux...

Je veux bien tout donner

Si seul'ment tu y crois,

Mon coeur veut bien saigner

Si seul'ment tu le vois,

Jusqu'a n'etre plus rien

Que l'ombre de tes nuits,

Jusqu'a n'etre plus rien

Qu'une ombre qui te suit.

Et s'il fallait le faire...

UKRAINE ESC 2009 - Svetlana Loboda - Be my valentine (2.Semi Final)

Svetlana Loboda was born in Kyiv on October 18, 1982. From early childhood she went to a music school where she learned to play the piano and at the same time mastered the art of singing and conducting. Having finished the music school Svetlana didn’t give up her music studies and entered the department of variety singing at Kyiv Variety And Circus Academy. As a 1st year student, Svetlana Loboda becomes a participant of the band “Cappuccino”. Very soon she leaves the band and embarks on a free career. In 2003 Svetlana Loboda participates in the casting for the 1st Ukrainian musical The Equator where she gets the leading role of Mirana. On December 28, 2003, Svetlana starts a new band – “Catch”. She works out the repertory and stage costumes and all through the Christmas holidays “Catch” performs their show in various night clubs of Kyiv. It is then that she was noticed by Dmitriy Kostyuk, producer of the band “VIA Gra”. In 2004 Loboda came to the casting for “VIA Gra” band. Thanks to her vocal, choreography, and appearance she managed to surpass nearly 500 rivals and became a new soloist of “VIA Gra”. Interestingly, up to the final rounds of the competition Svetlana didn’t know what band the casting was for. Svetlana’s first appearance as a participant of the band was a performance in the contest show “Fabrika Zviozd” (Star Factory) and the first music video with her was the sexy blockbuster “Biologiya” (Biology) However, after 5 months in the band Svetlana realized that she didn’t want to be a part of “VIA Gra” any more. She lacked freedom for working in this band meant a lot of restrictions. And that was the beginning of her solo career. At the end of November 2004 Svetlana Loboda shot a music video “Cherno-Belaya Zima” (Black-and-white Winter) and in a year, in November 2005, she released her debut album “Ty Ne Zabudesh” (You Won’t Forget).Svetlana’s fourth clip “Cherny Angel” (Black Angel) with Nadezhda Granovskaya (Meikher), Svetlana’s close friend and incidentally ex-participant of “VIA Gra”, appearing in it became a true landmark. In 2006, Svetlana was the anchorwoman of the TV program “ShowMania” on “Novy” channel and in 2007 was a host of “Miss CIS” on “TET” TV channel. At the same time the singer started a tourist agency of her own “Happy Vacations”. On October 18, 2007, Svetlana Loboda organized an exhibition of her photos dedicated to India. In 2008, the singer released the album “Ne Macho” (Not a macho). April 23, 2008 saw the launch of her clothing line wearing the name “F*ck the macho”. Svetlana’s first all-Ukrainian tour is being prepared for autumn 2008 for 25 cities in Ukraine. On October,18th, the day of her birthday, Svetlana receives Ukrainian National Olymp Award.Song "Be My Valentine" was composed by the singer herself. Energetic, ironic composition will be liked by many viewers and staging of dance group "Freedom" lead by Elena Kolyadenko will underline not only choreographic, but also vocal abilities of an artist, as she starts singing live being positioned Svetlana Loboda begins upside-down, sits on the twine on men's shoulders, and an apogee of the performance is virtuoso drum solo. «Certainly, participation in the competition for me is very important and responsible decision that will require maximum efforts, not only from me only but from the whole team. We feel confident in ourselves to represent our country with dignity and to fulfil expectations of Ukrainians", said Svetlana Loboda

Lyrics:

My love for you grows with each passing day

I’m by your side when you’re away

When I miss you and long for your care

I close my eyes and you there.

All that I ask is one moment in time

No strings attached, no drawing lines

You fill my thoughts even when you’re not here

I close my eyes, close my eyes and I feel

You’re there!

Take my love, take my heart

Carry me with you in your dreams

No, no never let go

Wonder of love – Magical glow.

Take my love, take my heart

Carry me with you in your dreams

No, no never let goWonder of love – Magical glow

All that I ask is one moment in time

No strings attached, no drawing lines

You fill my thoughts even when you’re not here

I close my eyes, close my eyes and I feel

You’re there!

Take my love, take my heart

Therefore, in her repertoire are only those songs that every time raise strong emotions.

"My brothers, George and Dinu, forming "Master Dynamite" needed my voice to record a new song of the band. I went to their studio and there I met Veaceslav Daniliuc, working with "Master Dynamite". After we finished the recordings for the band, he approached me and said he wanted to listen to a track. I listened to it and I said that's a good one, after which he proposed me to sing it. This was the start of our collaboration". "Hora din Moldova", on which they worked for three monthes, has been recorded in English, Russian and Romanian. Lyrics:

I've had it all as a little child

I've done it all as a little child

But the pain that I had

For the fame that I gotWas for what?

A little girl is crying alone

A little boy searching for his home

Giving up to a sin For a heart-craving dream

Is that a sin?

If you really love

The love you say you love (really love)

Then surely that love would love ...

Then surely that love would love to love you back

For just one moment

We all wanna be

Just as happy

As one can be(So don't you make the same mistake

You gotta give for what you take)

And don't you break

A little girl or boy

They're crying at home alone

A faithful song

Will lead the way to make you strong

If you really love

The love you say you love (really love)

Then surely that love would love ...

Then surely that love will love you back

Lyrics:

Take a chance, and take a hold

give it all, and turn it to gold

time has come, so make a stand

on your own , and take command

Beat the odds, you will survive

stronger now, you feel alive

Rising up, get into place

feel it in your heart,

When you are, winning this race

When I look into your eyes

It comes, as no surprise

This is our night, fly , to the top baby

yes we can do it, just wait and see

This is our night, time ,for a change baby

get rid of the old, take a hold, and be free

This is our night, fly , to the top baby

yes we can do it, just wait and see

This is our night, time, for a change baby

get rid of the old, take a hold, and be free

This is our night

Counting down, the night of nights

Getting now, to stand and fight

Don't back down,just look within

Do it now, I know you will

When I look into your eyes

it comes as no surprise,

Lyrics:

I see it in your eyes, you wanna dance with me tonight

It’s raining on your body as you’re puttin’ up a fight

The way you’re moving, how you groove is somewhere out of sight

You know it’s only fair to tell you that you do it right

Now with a little luck,

I’m gonna meet you on the dance floor

Just by the way you move, you make me beg for more

I’m burning with desire, it’s the night I’ve waited for

Don’t you lose your emotion

Don’t you be shy tonight

Let the rhythm show you

Baby, you can do it right

Alright tonight

Come on, dance with me, make me lose my way

Take a chance with me, make my body sway

It’s an overload in a disco fantasy

Let’s dance the night away

Just yesterday we were on the floor

Like somewhere in a movie or a club in Singapore

The lights are bright, the mood is raw

And in the middle of the night, we dance till we get sore

And in the middle of the night,

I’ll meet you on the dancefloor

Gonna meet you, move your body, beg for more

With a rhythm and a beat,

I’ll rock you to the core

Don’t you lose your emotion

Don’t you be shy tonight

Let the rhythm show you

Baby, you can do it right

Alright tonight

Come on, dance with me, make me lose my way

Take a chance with me, make my body sway

It’s an overload in a disco fantasy

Let’s dance the night away

Dance with me

Dance dance dance with me

Dance with me

Lyrics:

Imagine you and me

We're flying above the sea...

Feeling free in this love symphony...

Imagine you and me

We're flying above the sea...

Feeling free

in this love symphony...

Out of time, out of place

somewhere, inside my universe,

where you live your dreams...

Imagine, you and me,

we're flying above the sea,

feeling free,

eternaly,

like in this love symphony...

DENMARK ESC 2009 - Brinck - Believe Again (2.Semi Final)

Niels Brinck, born and raised in Aarhus, from childhood has been attracted by music, first as songwriter, then as producer, and, finally, as singer.
Brinck's interest in music has been brought by his mother, who played saxophone. His early influences came from singer/songwriter Sebastian, whose records were found in Brinck's mother's collection. When he was just seven, he wrote first songs and they were performed in children's shows. Since then he has composed for several well-known artists, such as Anggun from France, Julie Berthelsen and last X-factor entrant Martin."I have not seen originally or was experienced enough to believe that I myself, can be a singer, but suddenly I got very much feedback on the material I was sending out as demos", says Brinck. Four years ago Brinck moved to Copenhagen and, in addition to writing and producing, focused on developing as a singer. Last year finally he made his debut with "In The End I Started", a song that was featured in TV series "Anna Pihl". Due to number of downloads only, "In The End I Started" has since moved closer to gold status. In May 2008 Brinck's album has been released. "The album is a necessity for me. It has been pushed for a long time, but only now I am completely happy with my songs and not least, with my voice", says Brinck. "All my songs start quite minimalist with my guitar and me," says Brinck. "The music and texts are arising in my head at any time, often encouraged by a feeling or something that moves me in life. Since I was quite young, I have consistently enshrined ideas and texts when they have appeared in my head. Many of them have developed into finished songs while others may be finalized soon. I'm writing not just to fill the word in a good melody, but above all to put some idea inside inside my audience". The album was produced by Brinck and Faroese Oli Poulsen, and the two also played majority of instruments on album, while there are guest appearances from, for example Swedish Maria Marcus.

Lyrics:

You made it so easyto fall,

I could not stand at all

I saw you beside me

You never saw me there at all

I promised you all this

I made plans thinking this was it

I never imagined

I'd find you and lose myself instead

I never had a picture of an end

and I - I wanna believe in love

I wanna believe in something bigger than the two of us

And I - I wanna breathe again

I wanna go back to the days

the days I had my innocence

I wanna believe again

I picked up the pieces

and put them back where they belong

but something's missing

though I look the same, I'm not that strong

but I'm gonna learn to trust again

and I - I wanna believe in love

I wanna believe in something bigger than the two of us

And I - I wanna breathe again

I wanna go back to the days

the days I had my innocence

I wanna believe again

Believe there's hopefor everyone

Wanna believe againfor without love

what do we become

I never had a picture of an end

and I - I wanna believe in love

I wanna believe in something bigger than the two of us

And I - I wanna breathe again

I wanna go back to the days

the days I had my innocence

I wanna believe again

Lyrics:

Cítim chladné ..

.tiene zradné...

Túžbou planie čo je na dne...

Prázdno v duši,

to sa stáva Horkú príchuť temno máva

My musíme vyjsť

z tieňov nástrah a slov

srdce daj , nezúfaj,a leť tmou..

.Tiež to cítim, tiež sa bojím...

sen sa chveje strachom mojim...

Chvíľa straty, chvíľa strachu

keď sa nádej váľa v prachu...

My musíme vyjsť

z tieňov nástrah a slov

srdce daj , nezúfaj,a leť tmou..

.My musíme vyjsť

z tieňov nástrah a slov

srdce daj, nezúfaj,a leť tmou.....

. ale kam...?

neviem v tejto chvíli

každý raz sa zmýli

ticho vo mne šepká Nezostávaj sám...!

Keď sa blíži

odpustenie

mraky obáv odoženie

Nezablúdiš, si si istý,

keď ťa niekto pevne istí,

Bože nech nás tvoj hlas

vedie temnotou v nás

daj nám dar

,zázrak sprav

lásku vráť ...

Láska prosím....

Láska nech nás tvoj hlas

vedie temnotou v nás

daj nám dar,

zázrak spravstoj pri nás....

lásku chráň!

CYPRUS ESC 2009 - Christina Metaxas - Firefly (2.Semi Final)

Christina Metaxa will represent Cyprus with song "Firefly". Christina Metaxa is only 16 years old and comes from Lemesos. The song ‘Firefly’ was written and composed by her brother Nikolas. Nikolas, 20, 2008 national final runner-up, has since gained a huge popularity after finishing 2nd in Greek version of X-Factor.
Christina and Nikolas won first prize in the National Lions song-writing competition in 2005. Christina is a student at the Grammar school. She has many talents: she is an extremely talented artist who paints to relax and to express her inner feelings and thoughts and she is also a great dancer and a member of the Diastasis young dancers group. She loves singing and has been taking voice lessons with Mr Christos Kyriakides for the last 2 years and is a member of the Grammar School choir and theater club where she has participated in many concerts, plays and musicals. This year she has one of the leading roles in the musical “Mamma Mia” which will be presented in March. She also writes poetry and children stories and is ready to publish her first book with 4 stories for children and her first poetic collection. She also composed two songs for which she also wrote the lyrics.
Сhristina was deeply touched and honored by Nikolas’ decision to write a song for her; a song that talks about the importance of having faith in our life and of having the strength to take the necessary risks even if we have to look a bit different than the crowds. “Nikolas has always been a guiding force for me. I often tell my mom that I would not be the person I am today if Nikolas was not my brother. He is the person who always pushes me to my limits, who gets angry with me whenever he sees me losing my faith and my strength and he infuriates me to the point that I have no choice but to dare and do things which I thought impossible. The only reason which made me say yes to the Eurovision participation is the fact that he wrote a song especially for me and I want to make him proud of me and to live up to his expectations. I do love him passionately and my wish is for both of us to remain pals even when he will be very famous, because I am sure he will be famous worldwide one day”
Speaking about her Eurovision participation, Christina says: “ I must confess that I see this as the greatest challenge of my life but I will do my best under the circumstances and I will concentrate on the love and messages I am ready to give to all the young people around Europe through my song. My wish is to manage to send a message of light, hope and strength to my peers and to urge them to follow the light in their hearts and to reach their dreams even if this means being different and unique and not a copy of others. Deep down this is the message I’ve been trying to give my self during my teenage years. My secret dream is to make my brother and the rest of the Cypriots very proud and to show the world that teenagers have the strength to set targets and to follow their inner light despite the difficulties and negative challenges of today’s world.”

Lyrics:

It’s the question that drives us

To where we must go its

the unknown that derives from us

What we want most

But the firefly sits

In the corner and rests

It won’t care if you stare

But believe me

It’s best to let go

Don’t just go with flow

Chorus
And the firefly comes to you

Sits on your finger

It shudders and shakes but

she wants you to go with her now

Follow her out there

The firefly spreading

Her wings open wide thinks

the sky will come crushing down

And fall to her side She’s afraid

But her fear slowly fades

So fly with the firefly

Fly side by side

Escaping the chains

That held you from your life

Don’t look down

You are over the edge…

Jump,

Take the leap of faith

Jump

Take the leap of faith

It’s the question that drives us

To where we must go it’s

the unknown that derives from us

What we want most

But the firefly sits

In the corner and rests
